The Hunt For New Music: “Ain’t Nothing You Can Do” is one of Van Morrison’s greatest songs and live it’s even better than the recorded version. This song spells out the dilemma that everyone who has ever had and lost a love has been through: that nagging pain when they’re gone that you just can’t shake. The original was one of the signature songs of Bobby “Blue” Bland but Van’s version has always seemed more powerful to me. This live version is from a Rotterdam concert in 1981.
