Paying Attention: One of the finest American entertainers of all time–in both talent and spirit– was Bob “Here for the Troops” Hope. It’s the holiday season and during most holiday seasons, throughout his career, Bob Hope went on the road to entertain American troops in war zones around the world, logging 57 USO Tours. Somehow, he also managed to star in a series of broadcast Christmas specials which became American classics and a programming “must-see” of the holidays. This special, from 1965, is the first one that Bob Hope did in color and features long-time pal Bing Crosby, along with Nancy Wilson, Jack Benny, and Janet Leigh. It’s fifty years old now…but still great entertainment. There will be more of Bob’s Christmas specials in the coming days.
