Good Morning, it’s Thursday, 12 October 2017 and this is the Morning Edition of The Nightshift, the world’s overnight news feed.
The Napa Valley fires continue to devastate Northern California with no end in sight. The next hope for a weather break favorable to firefighters is this coming weekend. One of the main problems is the wind that is spreading the fire and embers continually. The fire fighters need to catch a weather break, as entire towns are being burned to the ground in this firestorm.
The Boy Scouts have announced that they will admit girls into the Cub Scouts and allow them to earn the coveted Eagle Scout ranking. Things are changing in Scouting, just like things are changing in the rest of the world. Are we headed into a society and culture without traditions?
The Cubs and Nationals will play one more game today to see who continues in the MLB Playoffs. The Nationals won yesterday’s game 5-0 behind a stellar performance by Stephen Strasburg. In yesterday’s other MLB playoff game, the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians–winners of 22 straight games in the regular season–by a score of 5-2. The Indians were ahead two games to none in the best of five series and were heavy favorites to continue on. But they didn’t.  The Yankees will face the Houston Astros next.
President Donald Trump, who’s always  unhappy with the news media, has threatened to take the broadcast licenses away from the NBC network. Trump is hypersensitive to criticism of his actions and behavior and NBC is very aggressive at reporting every little misstep of the Trump administration. Both have had a lot to talk about recently. Such a comment by the President indicates that he doesn’t understand the nature of broadcasting (it’s individual stations that have licenses, not networks) and doesn’t appreciate the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution–the one that guarantees free speech for everyone, including politicians like Trump and NBC. Trump is also threatening to back out of NAFTA, de-certify the Iran Nuclear Treaty, and undermine Obamacare via executive order. In the meantime, many more people are talking about the 25th Amendment and how it works. What a mess.
The FBI is allegedly investigating film producer Harvey Weinstein, who is already under heavy  media fire for sexual abuse charges from a wide variety of women. It’s not going to get better for Weinstein anytime soon.

We thank them for sharing. The Nightshift is a production of Perception Engineering and The Media Bunker. This post is number 1394  for this site. The Nightshift is a continually evolving experiment in news communications. Currently, comments on the world’s news have been (severely) limited and a photo of one important story of the day is often included. It’s rapid iteration. Thanks for reading. Now–catch up on the world.
