The Nightshift: 6 July 2017

Press Clippings:

Good Morning, it’s Thursday, 6 July 2017 and this is the Morning edition of The Nightshift, the world’s overnight news feed.
Today is National Fried Chicken Day–you know what to have for lunch or dinner. Also, we lost a legend on this day decades ago; famous Jazz Trumpeter Louis Armstrong died on July 6th in 1971 at the age of 69. Thanks, Satchmo, for the music and the memories.
The morning is on and now’s the perfect time to catch up on the news in the rest of the world by reading the front pages of the World’s Greatest newspapers.

2017 Tour De France: Stage 5

Nightshift Sports:

Yesterday was a disaster for two of the top riders at the Tour, when Peter Sagan appeared to elbow Mark Cavendish (attempting an inside pass) and took both of them down. Cavendish retired from the race due to a fractured right shoulder blade and Sagan was disqualified for his alleged intentional actions after a review of the video. At this point, Chris Froome is the overall leader. Get the full results and schedule for tomorrow at the Tour De France website, which is excellent. Remember to click on the “Classification” link to see the overall standings.

A Fourth of July Anthem

The Hunt for New Music.
Does anyone sing America the Beautiful better than Ray Charles? No, is the short answer. In addition to our national anthem, this may be our second greatest song. Ray Charles sings it here, live, with an orchestral accompaniment. Take some time and take it in. He was–and remains via his recordings–one our great national treasures.
You’ll feel better about America–and everything that goes on it–if you do.
Happy Fourth of July.
