Good Morning, it’s Tuesday, 14 November 2017 and this is the Morning Edition of The Nightshift.
Alabama Republican Roy Moore, running in the Senate race to replace Jeff Sessions, the former Alabama Senator who resigned to become Attorney General, is facing more accusations of inappropriate behavior with teenage girls. The allegations are unproven–“he said, she said” of the most dangerous kind–but many Senators in Washington are calling for him to drop out of the race. The latest accusation brings to five the total number of women who have claimed issues with Roy Moore. The hot mess that is Washington politics continues.
The U.S. has reset the guidelines for hypertension (high blood pressure). The new standards, from the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology, will triple the number of men classified with high blood pressure who are under the age of 45. Time to pay very serious attention to your health.
The U.K. Parliament will get a chance to vote on the Brexit issue. This will give them the opportunity to debate and amend the terms of the controversial agreement that would enable the U.K. to exit the European Union.
Qualcomm, the San Diego chip/software company (you probably have Qualcomm chips in your cell phone) has rejected a takeover offer from Broadcom, calling it “too low”. The offer was for $105 billion.
Liz Smith, the legendary New York gossip columnist has died. She was 94.

Good Morning, it’s Sunday, 12 November 2017 and this is the Morning edition of The Nightshift.
President Donald Trump is wrapping up his Asian tour. On the tour he had stops in Japan, China, Vietnam, and South Korea. Trump has one final stop in the Philippines and then he’ll head back to the United States.
Roy Moore, the Republican candidate running for the Alabama Senate seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Session, has denied the accusation that he had improper contact with a 14 year old girl when he was 32. The issue has made Moore toxic to different segments of the Republican establishment, many of whom have asked him to withdraw from the race.
British Prime Minister Theresa May–who is expected to manage the U.K.’s exit from the European Union–is facing a new problem: a vote of “no confidence” from up to 40 MPs of the British Parliament.  May has received very mixed reviews on her performance as Prime Minister. Will she stay in power long enough to attend the office Christmas Party?
In American college football, some very big names lost very big games yesterday. Georgia, ranked No. 1, lost to Auburn by the score of 40 to 17. Alabama, ranked number 2, had a tough night of it, but eventually beat Mississippi State, 31-24. The U (University of Miami) beat Notre Dame 41-8, to remain undefeated and end Notre Dame’s hopes of being in the running for one of the four college football national championship spots. Clemson beat Florida State, 31-14 and LSU beat Arkansas 33-10. In other college football news, Butch Jones, head coach at Tennessee, was fired, according to a report from Sports Illustrated. Jones was 34-27 at Tennessee, but was 0-6 this year in SEC competition; obviously, he was not up to the task of leading Tennessee back into the ranks of contenders. Jones is the second SEC head coach to be terminated during the season; Florida cut head coach Jim McElwain earlier in the season. Before the season started, Ole Miss terminated head coach Hugh Freeze for inappropriate personal behavior, which is a very delicate way of describing the scandal in which he was embroiled.
