Christmas Camp: How to Decorate a Christmas Wreath

More intelligent, informed, instruction on how to celebrate the year’s biggest holiday. This installment is focused on not just making the wreath (see previous video or click this link) but how to decorate the wreath once you’ve got it made. Making the wreath provides one part of the canvas; decorating it–either traditionally or more creatively–is the second and finishing part of the project. Use the techniques, ideas, and processes in this video to aid you in creating a wreath that accurately reflects your sense of Christmas style. And..one other thing…take photos throughout the entire process, to save for next year and to archive the steps–it’s easy to forget things when there’s a year in between use.

Christmas Camp: How to Make a Christmas Wreath

One thing you will want is a wreath for your front door (or back door, or just to hang over the fireplace). You can buy a wreath or make your own, but making a wreath is a lot of fun, a great experience for everyone in the family, and something that builds wonderful memories of the season. With all of the hobby stores and holiday decoration shops available today, finding the right materials and supplies to create your own wreath is simple. Yes, you can buy the wreath pre-made, or even order one from LL Bean or other online/direct mail stores. But–at least once–you just might find that making one from scratch creates a wonderful holiday memory. This video takes you through the process at a rather nice and enjoyable pace; it’s from The Cracked Pot flower boutique in London and they have the right attitude. Highly enjoyable.

Christmas Camp: How to Cut Down a Christmas Tree

You’ve made the commitment to find and cut down your own tree. Might as well do it the right way. Although some people like using a saw or even an axe, here at The Media Bunker, we are not shy about bringing out the Craftsman chainsaw and cutting the tree down quickly and smoothly. Again, it’s always about personal preference. Some very good instruction and points to remember about selecting a Christmas tree in this short video. Remember to wear hand and eye protection and dress appropriately. This is good stuff–take advantage of the information and have a Merry Christmas.

Christmas Camp: How to Find Your Christmas Tree

You’ll need a tree. You can buy a live one, cut down your own, or use an artificial tree. Each has its’ advantages. Live trees purchased from a Christmas tree lot bring the smell and feel of a traditional Christmas tree into the house without the necessity to go out to a farm and cut one down. It’s convenient. Cutting down your own Christmas tree is a totally different tradition and experience than picking one off the lot. You can turn that adventure into a very memorable day. And, artificial trees (most of them  pre-lit these days) are always perfect, cut down on prep time and ultimately economical. The downside is they have to be stored every year (and they take up a lot of a room) and they are heavy. It’s all a matter of personal style. To help you along with the process, we have a couple of videos for those who go the “cut your own tree” route. The first one is from the U.S. Forest Service and covers what to wear, take, and look for when you go into the forest to get a tree. Lots of very good safety information and how-to. The second video emphasizes cutting the tree down but also good information on tree maintenance after you get it home and even how to check out a tree on a tree lot. Whichever way you go, enjoy the adventure.

Christmas Camp: How to Plan for Christmas

It’s the holidaze…..the buildup is still building up, the time is getting shorter, and Christmas is days away. So…just in case you aren’t totally in control of the season, here’s a series of videos that cover many of the key elements of enjoying/staging/creating the perfect Christmas and Holiday experience. To be thorough–we’ll start with some planning and budgeting and go from there. As Van Morrison says, “precious time is ticking away”. Have at it. It’s the last minute sprint  to the finish–one more week until Christmas. Got all your shopping done? If not, now’s the time (and send out those cards, please).
Atlanta’s airport, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport–the world’s busiest–was shut down yesterday due to a total power outage. Over 1100 flights were cancelled on Sunday and another 300 cancelled this morning (Monday).  The outage could not come at a worse time–it’s the busiest travel time of the year and finding replacement flights for those whose flights were cancelled will be tough, as most outbound flights are 90% booked. What a mess.
“The Last Jedi”, the latest film in the Star Wars saga pulled in over $450 million at the box office this past weekend. What George Lucas created (and what Disney is carrying on) is an amazing cultural phenomenon. Well done to all involved.
Bob Seidemann, one of rock’s greatest photographers, has died at age 75.  Mr. Seidemann was also noted for his aviation photography which grew out of his lifelong fascination with flight.

The most recent iteration of the Star Wars franchise, “The Last Jedi”, is expected to pull in over half-a-billion dollars this weekend as it opens in theaters around the world. Disney certainly knows how to make a good thing better.
The new tax reform bill pulled together by the Republicans in the Senate and House is not favorable for home ownership. This marks a major shift in American tax policy. How will you be affected by this rushed-into-a-vote bill that is only good for corporations and wealthy families?
The long-running California wildfire (the Thomas fire) situated around Ventura is now classified as the third largest fire in California history. The fire is currently 40% contained with full containment expected by the first week in January; it has burned over 200,000 acres.
Lawyers for President Trump are advancing a theory that special counsel Robert Mueller has illegally obtained emails of the Trump presidential campaign. Mueller–an expert in procedures as well as investigative process–is highly unlikely to make any mistake of that type. Trump’s lawyers, however, have shown themselves to be quite susceptible to errors and miscalculations.

Kevin Robinson, a star BMW rider, has died unexpectedly at age 45. Robinson was a sensation in a sport that most are not even aware exits (unless you are under forty). He was a legend and will be missed.
Mike Francesca, the long-running radio talk show host on WFAN in New York, has retired from the program after thirty years on the air. During his amazingly long run, Francesca was always number 1 in the ratings. He had a huge number of fans and an equally large number of non-fans–that all goes with the territory in sports talk radio where if you’re not making impressions (negative or positive), you’re not connecting. Next for Francesca? Expect him to show up on satellite radio perhaps.

Good Morning, it’s Saturday, 16 December 2017, and this is the Morning edition of The Nightshift, the World’s Daily News Source.
Congress has cobbled together a new tax reform bill that seems to have a significant chance of passage, as two previous Senate holdouts, Marco Rubio and Bob Corker, say they will now support the bill. Has anyone read all of it? Is it fair? Is it biased toward the wealthy and large corporations? Unfortunately, the answers to those questions will only be known once the bill is passed and tightly analyzed. The new tax reform bill is projected to add up to $1.5 trillion to the deficit over the next decade. Much of the rationale for the bill is based on economic projections (tax less, the extra income earned will be reinvested into jobs and corporations) that has proven false in the past and that over 50 prominent economists say is not realistic.

An administration candidate for U.S.District Court Judge(a lifetime appointment), proved that he was spectacularly unprepared for such a position during a Senate hearing. Watch the video of Matthew Spencer Patterson to see a complete and total legal humiliation. Would it not have been appropriate and honorable for Patterson to withdraw from the nomination knowing-as-he-did that he was totally unqualified for such a key position? Yes, it would have. But he didn’t. The fact that he did not have the inherent honor to withdraw from consideration for a position for which he had zero qualifications tells you all you need to know.
Bob Iger, the CEO at Disney, is closing in on the company’s largest deal: absorption of most of 21st Century Fox. The price tab is over $50 billion (up to $60 billion including interest, debt, and closing expenses). The acquisition will make Disney THE major player in Hollywood and television, particularly in regional sports.
The Daily Grope: Andrea Ramsey, a Democratice candidate for Congress from Kansas has dropped out of the race after allegations about sexual misconduct were made against her. Also, NFL executive Jerry Richardson, who owns the Carolina Panthers, has been accused of “workplace misconduct”, although specifically what Richardson did has not yet been revealed. Richardson is the only former NFL player to own a franchise. The team is conducting an internal investigation. But wait, there’s more: Alex Kozinski, a judge on the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has been accused of allegedly making inappropriate comments and of inappropriate behavior by a group of as many as 15 different women. Order in the court.
